Why is sleep so important? Sleeping can affect everything in your daily life. According to Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, they've stated that less sleep can actual cause you to work slower. The average amount of sleep teenagers should get is about 9 hours, but only 8% of teenagers get 9 hours of sleep. 90% of teenagers have said that they sleep less than 9 hours daily from homework, private lessons, extracurricular activities, and using computers all night. It is said that people are getting 500 hours of less sleep per year after the invention of the light bulb. Not getting enough sleep has also proven to dumb people down and lower their concentration and memorization skills.
Sleep is very important for your body ladies! It is scientifically proven that the less sleep you get, the easier to lose muscle mass, and harder to lose weight. Preteens and teens tend to crave sweets and unhealthy food when they aren’t getting enough sleep. This happens because sleep and metabolism are controlled by the same part of your brain, so when you’re sleepy, it tends to drive up hormones in your blood and makes you have more appetite. You definitely don’t want to add fat from not getting enough sleep!
Your skin is also affected by sleep because during your sleep, your skin renews itself, and creates a beautiful layer of skin. The reason why you may be getting more pimples and acne than usual may be because you haven’t been getting the sleep your body needs. Sleep can affect everything! Well how can you improve your sleeping habit? Try not to go on your device at least one hour before you go to sleep. It is proven that the radiation from the phone can cause insomnia and headaches. Although you might get a bit sweaty and dirty, you can try to exercise before you sleep so your body will feel more tired, and you’ll be able to have a good rest. Also, avoid drinking coffee if you want to get a good night rest because coffee has caffeine in it which makes you feel light headed and refreshed causing you to be more awake. It’s important to set a schedule for your sleep that your body can maintain. Even on weekends! If you have trouble trying to sleep, don’t keep trying. Get out of bed once, and then try again later. Also, avoid studying on your bed, because studying on the bed can trick your brain to think that it is time for you to sleep. It’s also important to think of your priorities. Your body is far more important than your grade. If you want to sleep early, you can even set an alarm for your sleep, and remove all distractions
