What is a healthy lifestyle? Having the best bikini body in your P.E class? Eating only vegetables? Being free from disease? Having a healthy lifestyle certainly doesn’t mean to have the best bikini body, eating vegetables, or being free from disease. It is much more than that. Having a healthy lifestyle is when you’re balancing well the six components of health. The six components of health include physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and environmental health. If that is hard for you to remember, you can remember the phrase “Please Eat My Super Sand which Every day.”
Being in good shape is important, but you don’t have to be an athlete or do excessive sports to be fit. I mean, if you are an athlete go for it, but being physically healthy isn’t all there is to being physically healthy. Physical health includes sleeping enough, being disease free, exercising, having a balanced diet etc. Sleeping early, avoiding smoking, alcohol and drugs can lead you to great physical health too.
Social health doesn’t mean that you have many friends. Social health refers quality over quantity. Social health is the quality of the relationships you have with your friends, boyfriend, peers, and teachers. Are you talking to your parents lately? Is your boyfriend really worth taking up your time? Do you know which friends really care for you and which friends don’t? Having social health requires respect towards one another, and being able to identify what kind of friends fit you. If you know that your friends aren’t treating you right, back off them. What’s the point of being with someone who is doing you no good and who is disrespecting you? You are more than you think you are!
Spiritual health is to have a beautiful relationship with God, and His people. It is important to have the right mind of abiding with the Holy Spirit and forgiving people around you who do you wrong. Spiritual health also includes obeying Gods words and applying the fruit of the spirit in your life. Have you been talking to God lately? If not, do make time for him!
Mental health is the realization of knowing how to work with the demands of life. Being studious and getting A+ are important too, but realizing that getting good rest, praying, and putting yourself in peace can be great medicine to clear your mind and to refresh your body; giving you a healthy mental strength.
Environmental health includes the environment you are living in and the matter around you. Are you being eco-friendly? Are you creating a world where both you and your future generations can live enjoyably? It’s important to treasure the mother earth for it does not only apply to you, but also to others around you.
Being emotionally healthy is to be able to express your emotions in a positive way and not in a destructive way. Everyone has bad days. When you’re feeling down, go to a peer! Don’t boggle it up in yourself in a way that will harm you.
All of these six components of health interrelate. For example if you’re having a bad mental health by having a breakdown, it can interfere with all the other health components such as not being able to sleep well, not being able to talk to friends, not being able to talk to God, and not being able to eat properly. Girls, understand that being healthy is very important or else you will be weak in life.
